What is CBD?
CBD is short for cannabidiol, a cannabinoid extracted from hemp plants. It is non-intoxicating and non-addictive. There are multiple grades of CBD oil. The most common being full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, CBD isolate and nano-emulsified CBD
CBD has has many benefits. Some have been clinically proven while others are anecdotal, meaning people report the benefits, but they haven’t been studied by the medical industry. Some of the positive results have been verified in animal studies and lab scenarios, but not yet in peer-reviewed human studies. Some examples of the reported and proven benefits are:
- Pain relief – Generally reducing pain and inflammation
- Calming – Minimizing acute and chronic anxiety and stress
- Quality of sleep – 9 out of 10 people report sleeping better with CBD
- Healing – Improved bone growth and fracture recovery after surgery
- Improved recovery – The anti-oxidant properties mitigate damage caused by stroke
- Reduced seizure activity – CBD outperformed medications for two types of epilepsy
CBD for Pain – How does CBD address pain?
CBD is typically used to reduce pain and inflammation because it binds to the CB1 receptors in the brain and central nervous system. This triggers multiple TRP ion channels which manage the signaling of pain to the brain. Most notable is TRPV2 which, according to National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), plays a critical role in neuronal development, cardiac function, immunity and cancer. Pain relief has been substantiated in multiple animal studies. Ingesting CBD is a way to systematically treat pain by reducing the body’s inflammation while also reducing pain signals to the brain. CBD can also be applied topically as CBD receptors are also found in the skin, and it can potentially help with localized pain symptoms in the area of application.
CBD for Sleep – How does CBD help with sleep?
CBD is a natural alternative to help with sleep and relaxation. Hemp derived products help support a consistent sleep schedule. It is non-habit forming and comes in many dosages so you can find the perfect fit. Not only can it help you relax to sleep, it can help with the anxiety and stress that often pops up right before we fall asleep.
CBD for Anxiety – Can CBD help for anxiety and stress?
CBD is a wonderful calming molecule. It binds with receptors in your neural systems to help regulate stress and mood. It has been shown to have an effect on seratonin levels. Taking it regularly can help mitigate the ups and downs of anxiety. CBD can also be used to treat acute symptoms of stress when you have an overwhelmingly stressful day.
Is it legal?
Yes it is legal in all 50 states! It is legal to ship, consume, and travel with.
Will CBD get me high?
No, CBD is non-psychoactive and non-intoxicating. The molecule in marijuana that gets you high is called THC. Hemp plants are government regulated to have little to no THC and cannot get you high.
What’s the difference between full spectrum, broad spectrum and CBD isolate?
Full-spectrum CBD contains all the plant cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids. These molecules all work together to provide the health benefits. There are trace amounts of THC (less than 0.3%)
Broad spectrum CBD is full spectrum CBD with zero THC. Similar to full spectrum you are getting a range of cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids.
CBD Isolate is created by removing all the other molecules from the full spectrum extract. It leaves behind a white powder that contains 99% CBD with zero THC.
Which CBD type is best for me?
When possible we recommend full spectrum CBD. This gives you the most benefit and the trace amounts of THC are not enough to make you intoxicated.
Sometimes people are concerned about drug testing or children under 18. In those cases the broad spectrum or CBD is a great second choice.
When choosing a CBD product the most important thing is to look for quality. Look for local or organic farmed hemp. CBD is a booming business and not all companies are taking care with the farming and extracting process. This can lead to poor quality extracts that may do more harm than good.
How can I take it?
You can ingest CBD, put it under your tongue and hold it there for a short time (sublingually) or you can put it on topically. Each has their own benefits.
Is CBD safe for pets?
Yes, CBD benefits cats and dogs in much of the same ways it does humans. A lot of our customers find relief for their pets pain and stress with CBD
